As part of DXM’s local community links, we were asked to design and deliver a School Sports Festival for 1200 primary school children, plus their support staff (teachers and young leaders) – we accepted rather nervously.
The aim of the Festival was to introduce and develop leadership pathways for primary school pupils in Somerset. Underpinning the Festival was the emphasis placed on helping to raise the pupils’ self-esteem and self-confidence.
First port of call for DXM was to organise workshops for the 120 support staff, with the aim to develop their knowledge of the chosen experiential activities. A second outcome for the workshops was to standardise the leadership facilitation at the end of each activity; so as to avoid mixed messages.
The day ended with a celebration of the pupils’ success and some reflection with a cold beer for the DXM team. Diary dates for the next Festival are already being finalised
